What are Ajello Candles

Ajello Candle Company

The motto of the Ajello Candle Company is “It’s better to light a candle than to curse the darkness”. This candle making company has been in business since 1775. The business has been family owned for seven generations. The candles from Ajello’s are well known for their beauty and quality. While they make more candles now than in 1775, their dedication to quality and to customers has never changed.

The Ajello Candle Company was founded by Rafael Ajello, an Italian painter. He was also a beekeeper, so he tried his hand at using bees wax to create candles. He worked hard to create a formula that worked well. The formula, combined with his outstanding artistic ability, lead to the birth of the Ajello Candle Company. In 1785, the company earned the honor of creating all the candles for the Vatican. He and his wife ran the business, keeping their children involved in the processes from an early age. As time went on, their children and grandchildren kept the business running as well as passed the family business on to their children.

By 1862, the company had established itself as a leader among the candle making industry. They had also added perfumes and many colors to their line of outstanding candles. The decided to extend the business to Manhattan, New York. In both places, the business prospered. Kings and aristocrats in Italy wanted the services of the Ajello Candle Company. They designed candles for weddings, funerals, and ceremonies. They made the candles for the inauguration of the King of Spain in 1876, Pope Pius IX in 1878, and Pope Leo in 1902.

Enrico Caruso Candle

In 1922, the Ajello Candle Company made a memorial candle for their deceased friend Enrico Caruso. This candle was 18 feet tall and weighed more than a ton. It is estimated this candle could burn 24 hours a day for 1,800 years before running out of wax. This enormous memorial candle remains the largest one ever made in the world. Each year it is lit twice to honor the day Enrico Caruso was born and the day he died.

Antonnio Ajello

The Ajello Candle Company continued to grow and sells were well beyond anticipated both in Italy and the United States. In 1953 the company was asked to create 2,200 candles for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. The company was honored to meet the request, and had all the candles ready in six months. The Ajello Candle Company was approached to be bought out, but refused. The family wanted their candle business to remain just that, not a major corporation.

Despite the creative efforts of the Ajello Candle Company, they were not able to meet the demand for their candles in 1965 during the blackout in New York City. The age of computers has found the Ajello Candle Company offering candles via the internet. Ironically, as Rafael Ajello worked around the clock to make candles for this need, his wife was giving birth to their child at a hospital scrambling to find candles for her room.

The Ajello Candle Company is still going strong today, offering quality candles that are beautiful as well as made of the best quality products. These candles can be purchased in many specialty stores throughout the world as well as on the internet in the comfort of our homes. This candle making business has spanned many generations, yet continues to hold the traditions and values of Rafael Ajello who started this business more than two centuries ago.

Being a proven income opportunity, there is a market for every type of candle sold in the market

How to Start a Candle Making Business

By John Hughes

If you have prior experiences of making candles as a hobby, then you’ll definitely find this as an easy business to start from home. Being a proven income opportunity, there is a market for every type of candle sold in the market. The prime factors behind the skyrocketing popularity of a candle-making business are the relatively inexpensive supplies and the opportunity to use your creativity in terms of styles, colors, scent and sizes.

Your profitable candle-making business depends on your buyers’ preferences especially if it is a part-time or a home-based business. And there lies the beauty of it: you give your creative side an outlet while earning considerable income. You may also opt to venture into mass production of ordinary candles that require less effort to make. Selling them by the dozens will make your income opportunity almost equivalent to the income obtained by selling the designer ones.

It’s always better to determine your prospects first before starting any kind of business. A candle-making business also demands the same steps to be taken before making investments. Sell your candles to retail stores that purchase on a wholesale basis or through consignments. Another opportunity is to sell your candles to businesses like gift basket businesses or bed and breakfasts. Develop good public relations skills to market to your local community. It can turn into a large customer base with high income opportunity.

What will you need to start this business?

Apart from beeswax and spermaceti, there’s a third kind or raw material that added sophistication in the candle-making business. Commonly known as Gel Candles, these ones are made of paraffin that are transparent and consist of suspended decorative items and come within a container, which, most of the times, is a transparent one (glass or heat-resistant high-quality plastic).

Be sure to have a considerable amount of wax or paraffin, containers to melt them and a place to conduct all the work. Molds and containers give the desired shape to the molten mass, which again depends upon the kind of raw material used. For example, pillar wax has a high melting point while paraffin has a lower one.

Fragrances and dyes will round up your initial investment to around $200. Candle-making books and videos and attending candle-making courses may hike the price by another $300. Considering the high income opportunity of a candle-making business, selling on online markets to friends, family members and neighbors, in flea markets and public markets will usually cover your investments with the sale of the first 200 units.

Even tho this is a great article submitted I feel my Candle Making Ebook out shines the rest-Big Headed am I not-LOL

Paraffin candle making is by far the most popular form of candle making that there is and it is the wax of choice for many beginners. There are many reasons for this, for example paraffin wax is usually cheaper then other wax and it is also easy to use and very basic which helps to let your creativity flow. If you want to learn about paraffin candle making then you have come to the right place as this article is going to cover the basics of what you need to know to make wonderful candles at home.

You are going to want to start by gathering all of the supplies that you are going to need, naturally, when it comes to paraffin candle making you are going to need paraffin wax. You are also going to need a carving knife, a spoon or a ladle, a thermometer, candle mold, wick, wick tabs, and a double boiler. Now if you want to add scents or color feel free to get some, also, if you do not have a double boiler then substitute a boiling pot and an empty soup can just make sure it is clean and dry.

Step # 1. Prepare the wax first, fill the bottom pot of the double boiler with water and cut some wax chunks in to the top pot of the double boiler.

Step # 2. Boil the water and stir the wax as it melts, it will melt fairly quickly so keep your eye on it and make sure that you stir often. You are also going to want to check the temperature often as the paraffin wax will be ready shortly.

Step # 3. Now prepare the mold as you are waiting for the wax to melt, simply wipe the inside of the mold with olive oil or vegetable oil. Then string the wick through the wick tab if this is not already done for you. Place the wick tab in the bottom center of the mold.

Step # 4. Now when it comes to paraffin candle making this is the part where you want to go slow and take your time. If the wax is ready and melted then you can add scents or color dyes if you want. Now slowly pour the wax in to the mold and let it sit for 24 hours.

Step # 5. When the time has passed simply remove the candle from the mold and trim the wick, when this is done, you are done with paraffin candle making!

Making Beeswax Candles- Tips

Beeswax candles are hugely popular for their natural characteristics. Beeswax candles will burn extremely cleanly and deposit little or no oil. They do not need any fragrance oils because their natural odor is very pleasant. Beeswax candles lend an oriental feel to the environment they are in.

There are two ways one can make beeswax candles. One way is by simply purchasing a sheet of bees wax and rolling a candle from it. This is the easiest of the two ways and even children can do it. It takes little time and effort. The other is the traditional candle making way.

Readily available bees wax candle sheets in various colors and with various fragrances can be purchased. With the width of the beeswax sheet facing you, place the wick along the width and start rolling it tight. Once you have attained the required thickness, you can cut the sheet. Make sure there is no trapped air between the layers of the candle by rolling it tight and pressing down.

Learning beeswax candle making the traditional way requires some time and practice. But once you learn how to do it, you can make candles from any material.

Here is the other way in which beeswax candles are made:

First melt the wax in a double boiler. Bees wax has a high melting point, so you have to keep the heat source on till the temperature reaches 170 degree Fahrenheit.

When the bees wax is just about to melt, you can include color and fragrance. Initially, just add a small amount as bees wax itself has great color and odor. You will also learn how the wax absorbs the color when you start with small quantities and include more as you make more candles.

Once the beeswax has melted, you can pour it into the candle molds. When pouring wax into the molds, ensure that your wick is in place and in securely tethered to the mold with a hook or clip. After molding the wax, allow it to cool and harden for at least six hours. You could also place the mold in a freezer after it has cooled in the open for more than five hours. Rapid cooling can make the candle become brittle. So do not place it into the freezer before five hours of open cooling and for not longer than ten minutes. After it has cooled, your candle is ready.

Do not forget the main candle making concept-HERE

————————

Customize That Light with Candles

Easy as it is, making candles only need you to follow a few steps and you could achieve the finished product that you pictured out in your mind. There are a lot of ways to make candles. It could be by using simple quick steps from the internet or some more complex methods recommended by your neighbor who is into candle making.

Whatever it is, injecting some dose of your own creative ideas would make a whole lot of difference. What then are some tools you could use in making gel candles with your own brand of style?

As you follow the conventional steps of making gel candles, it would add up the fun if you consider the following tips:

· Use other materials that would let you have fun explore your creativity while adding more elements of style. Non-flammable things like sand, shells, metal charms, beads, marbles, pebbles, glitters, aquarium gravel, artificial jewel or pearls, and the like are among the most attractive things to have in your gel candle.

·	Add colors that suit the little things you add with your gel candle. If you want the touch of “beach”, you use aqua blue while you put some shells, aquarium pebbles or gravel and miniature star fish in your candle. You could also match the style you want to customize by mixing beads with glitters but consider color harmony as well.

·	Place some of these little objects at the bottom part of the container before freely putting them in the other portions of the container. This would hide the wick tab.

·	As you pour gel, add these tiny objects in layers. Take note that you need to place these objects away from the wick. The tip is- the closer these objects to the outside portion of the container, the more “visible” they could be.

As you make the candles, you would enjoy the fact that you are playing with colors and style. What makes the gel candles is that they were created out of pure pleasure and fun. Personalizing these gel candles is another great idea. You could try to use cut-outs of your name.

How to make gel candles as gifts

When a loved-one or any special person celebrates a memorable day of his or her life, gifts would always be at the top list. Gifts may vary from the simple greeting cards to the most luxurious car. Does the cost matter? It does but it does not matter the most. As always said, it is the “thought” that counts.

Though for most people the tag price of your present may “tickle the spine”, it is beyond denial that a “personal” touch expresses more sincerity for the receiver. Your creativity plus a few tips from us would make that special person feel extra special because of your own custom gel candles.

1. Prepare the following materials:

·	Ceramic containers like mugs or any fancy-shaped figurine that could hold the candle wax when melted and cooled. Glasses are also great.
·	Gel wax,
·	Candle wicks
·	Pencils
·	Pot (for melting wax)
·	Candle scent and color (non alcohol-base)
·	Sharp scissors

2. With the use of a pencil, twine the wick around it but leave some of the wick free that it could reach the bottom part of the candle container. It must be straight down the center of the container.

3. Put the pencil with the twined wick on top of the container; allow the wick to hang down the center of the container. As what the directions tell, melt the wax by cutting them into cubes first to hasten the melting.

4. Add color and scent but make sure that they will not make the wax cloudy.

5. After the melting, pour the gel wax into the container you have prepared. Fill the container but set a limit. Before getting to the next step, make sure that the wax turned gel fully cools down.

6. Check out the wick if it really takes the focal point of the container.

7. Trim the wick to ¼ of its total length.

8. You could tie a ribbon around it or stick a piece of fancy paper with a special message or a mini-picture of the receiver. Give it with the purest sincerity.

As you follow these quick and easy steps, you could unravel both the artist and entrepreneur in you. This way of preparing gifts would tickle your resourcefulness and creativity. Moreover, it may be an initiation of your new business specializing in candles. They are making it big on the market today.

Candles Made in A Shot Glasses

You could see these things in drinking places, poured with liquor being shared by fun-loving people. This is of course is an instant when a single shot glass means a lot. Have you ever wondered about the other benefits of just a shot glass? Well, there is one exciting and very useful innovation with a shot glass, which is using them to make candles. Yes, I call them shot glass candles.

Shot glass candles are really artistic and they could be very useful for the home and whatever place you think you would need them, not as mere light source but as well as having decorative purposes.

You could make your own shot glass candles. The steps to make are easy and economical. Out of these easy steps and with a small sum of money, you would be able to start a good hobby, a good small business and a good kick start for your creative side. This is also a means of recycling or re-using old candles.

Cut old candles into pieces and place these pieces in a container. When you want to use a certain color, you could use uncolored wax for your convenience.

Place the container into another container of boiling water. Wait until the candle pieces melt.

When you see that the wax has melted, it is the right time to put some dye for color.

Prepare your wicks. Cut them as they fit to the shot glasses.

Place these wicks to the shot glasses.

Pour the wax into the shot glasses but make sure that it does not submerge the entire length of the wick.

When the wax has nearly set, you see to it that you adjust the wick to the center of the shot glass. Leave the shot glasses in order for the wax to completely set.

These are so simple steps to follow, make sure also that when you choose shot glasses for candle making, and choose the thicker ones for they are much safer. For wicks, you could tie it around a toothpick before letting it lay in a shot glass. Remember to cut ¼ of it before lighting it up.

Scented Candle Making

To make a basic sweet-scented candle, you will need some wax. Paraffin wax is easy to find and is good in just about any type of standard candle. Paraffin wax can be found at hobby or craft shops.

You will also need a pouring pot, which is just a metal pot with a handle that you will melt down the wax in.

Have a wax or candle thermometer handy.

Candle-making requires a candle wick.

If you want your wax to have color, then you need to have either a liquid coloring, a powder, or chip color, which is a solid pigment chip.

Choose a mold to shape the candle. Hobby stores carry all of that you need. Ebay is a good place to buy candle making supplies as well.

Finally, you need what gives a scented candle its scent! Scent comes in a couple different forms — liquid aroma scent and solid scent. Liquid aroma scent is more difficult to use, but it is much stronger and will hang around longer.

Select your conception. Candles can be made in just about any shape, from ball candles to long, skinny tapers. There are also elaborated molds in every shape conceivable.

The easiest mold is a pillar candle, which is a thick cylindrical, that is flat at the top and bottom. This is a sturdy shape that will sit firmly anywhere and has a long burn time. Pillar molds are easy to find in the hobby stores , while it can take more time and effort to find more complex molds

Find a heat source.

You will need heat to melt the wax, and it should be a safe source that is easy to clean. When using a pouring pot, there are usually a few drops that will run down the pot after the wax has been poured. This wax stays liquid for for a while, but eventually dries onto the surface.

It is not a good idea to try to wipe the liquid wax while it is still hot, as there is a good chance of getting some fingers burned. If you use a thick cloth towel to try to clean it up each time the wax is poured, the towel will be completely ruined, as wax does not wash out of fabric.

It is best to simply plan for the wax that will build up as the wax is poured, and try to pour as gently as you can to limit the amount of wax that drips. A hot plate is good source, as it is easy to scratch up wax from the surface, and it can be used in any room that is commodious.

Melt down the wax. For a typical pillar candle, you will need at least a pound of wax. This formula will be for one pound, and if you are making a larger-than-life candle, simply proportionate and increase the amount. Place the wax in the pouring pot, and attach the thermometer onto the side. Let the wax melt, but don’t let the temperature go past around 300 degrees. Wax catches fire at about 375 degrees, and it is best to stay well under that doorway while keeping the wax a liquid.

Color the wax. If you have decided on a color, combine the color to the liquid wax and agitate. The color can be a liquid color, a powder, or chip color, which is a solid pigmentation chip.

Chip color is by far the easiest to use and is very efficient in coloring wax. For one pound of wax, use one full diamond chip if that is what you have. If you have a long block of solid color, break off about one fourth of the block for a nice, rich color.

If you are looking for a more pastel shade, use about half of these amounts. You can agitate the mixture with anything you like, or you can just slosh around the pot gently to mix the wax and color.

Add the scent. If you are using a liquid scent, add about one ounce for a strong scent. Or add less for a more elusive outcome. If you are using a solid scent, read the instructions as to how much is needed for one pound of wax. Agitate or splosh the pot.

Now ready for the mold. If the mold has a wick hole at the bottom, attach the wick in the hole according to the directions that came with the mold. Some molds come with a putty or adhesive to help hold it in place. Once the wick has been placed in the hole, tie the top of the wick around something, such as a pencil, or a stick. The item will then be laid across the top, keeping the wick straight and taught.

Pouring the wax. The wax should be poured slowly into the mold. The more slowly and carefully you pour it, the fewer air bubbles will be in the wax. When all of it is poured, gently pat the side of the mold to release any bubbles.

Let the wax cool. Checking back often to make sure it is cooling equally. Most candles will sink a little in the middle as the wax hardens, so more wax will probably be required to pour into the middle to even it out. If it is a very large candle, this will need to be repeated several times.

Removing Candle. Once the candle is completed cooled and hardened, take it out of the mold. Pillar molds are very slightly sloped so that the wax will not get stuck, and the sides are smooth, allowing it to slide out easily. The candle will come out with two ends of wick sticking out. The part of the wick that was affixed to the bottom of the mold is the top of the candle. Trim it to about half an inch long, and cut the wick off the other side.

You candle is finished! Well Done
